Behind the Scenes in the Studio: Our BoomBalloon Journey

Running a business as a couple? It’s not for the faint of heart—but it’s also one of the most exciting decisions we’ve ever made. If you’ve ever wondered what happens behind the balloons, here’s a little glimpse into what the future looks like for BoomBalloon Studio (and for us, Ariana and Roberto—the duo behind the brand).

We officially registered BoomBalloon Studio in January 2019, when our oldest daughter, Anna, was just a toddler. Back then, I (Ariana) was working full-time as an accounting clerk at a dealership, and Roberto was working full-time at NAIT. At the time, BoomBalloon was more of a side hustle my creative outlet and Roberto wasn’t all that involved (yet!).

Then came COVID-19. Suddenly, people couldn’t gather to celebrate, but they still wanted to mark special moments. That’s when BoomBalloon really started to grow. We delivered balloon bouquets, yard setups, and a whole lot of happiness. Around the same time, we also welcomed our second daughter, Alicia, and started to see the real potential of this business.

Roberto, who had been laid off during the pandemic, started learning the ropes and getting more involved. He later pursued a new path in carpentry, but when we found out we were expecting our third daughter, Andrea, he pressed pause on that dream to provide a more stable income and returned to work in the kitchen. During that time, I had an opportunity to return to the workforce—and that became our leap of faith.

By April 2024, I went back to full-time work while Roberto officially took over BoomBalloon. He learned everything from inventory management and customer service to product design (yes, he’s the genius behind our marquee letters!). It wasn’t easy, but it gave us the clarity we needed to dream even bigger.

In June 2024, Roberto fully resigned from his day job. And now, after months of planning and reflection, it’s my turn. I’ve officially decided to leave my job and return to BoomBalloon full-time this time, for good! This will happen in the next couple months! I do want to say that I love my job, the people I work with and for, this was once my dream job. But now my heart and passion is with BoomBalloon 💜

There will definitely be changes as we transition during the last trimester of 2025. We’ll be tightening up internal processes, redefining roles, and preparing to give BoomBalloon our full focus as a team. But that also means 2026 is going to be our biggest, boldest year yet.
